Rottweiler
Should You Buy a Rottweiler?
Those looking for a protective dog that is intelligent and
devoted to its owners should consider a Rottweiler. This large
breed is a versatile working dog. They are known as excellent
guard dogs, excel in agility training, and think that they are
lapdogs when with the owners.
The Rottweiler is large and quite muscular. They weigh between
85 to 130 pounds and stand 22 to 27 inches at the shoulder. A
Rottweiler has a sleek black and brown coat and dark brown
eyes.
The AKC classifies this breed as a member of the Working
Group. These dogs are abused many times in an attempt to make
them more aggressive. The abused animals have given the entire
breed a bad reputation. Rottweilers that are bred and raised
well generally make wonderful pets.
This breed is not well suited to apartment life because they
are large and need room to run. Rottweilers thrive best in a
home with a fenced yard. Those that do not have a fenced yard
should be prepared to run with the dog regularly.

This dog is very intelligent and does best when it has
something to do. It should be given some type of job such as
keeping pests out of the garden, to help it remain happy. This
breed should be trained as a puppy as the animals quickly grow
large and powerful. Puppy obedience classes are a great
opportunity to provide the animal with socialization at a
young age. This breed enjoys learning as long as the trainer
is patient and shows affection. The Rottweiler also enjoys new
challenges and excels at agility trials.
The Rottweiler is not a good choice for families with small
children. The child could easily be injured by an active
puppy. Anyone wanting this breed should wait until the
children are old enough to walk well.
This dog will require a significant amount of chow. It is
important to ensure that the nutritional needs of this dog are
met to alleviate joint problems in old age.
Grooming a Rottweiler is fairly simple. The dog should be
brushed weekly with a slicker brush to keep its coat shiny and
glossy. The nails should be checked and trimmed when needed
and the teeth should be brushed regularly.
Anyone looking for a dog that is intelligent and will protect
them at all times should consider a Rottweiler.
